MONTHLY MEETING REPORTS
our thanks to Heather Mather who write these reports every month.
Report from JUNE 2019 meeting
The WI AGM was held at Westerdale village hall on 5th June.
Despite there being few members in number this evening, a lively discussion ensued throughout all the topics brought up in the business.
Invitations from both Kirbymoorside and Ingleby Greenhow were very interesting and some members opted to go for the visit. The Group Rally & talk by Martin Fish & his wife entitled "From plot to pot" had been a great success. Meetings to discuss our entries for Danby Show have begun.
President Edna read her report for the preceding year, with special mention of our two Nonogenarians, Hilda & Annie and the wonderful all day celebration put on for them & our trophy which we won at the Group Show in September with great delight of all who attended. Thanks were extended to all members who had contributed. This was followed by our Treasurer's report which told us that the accounts had been audited and then were accepted by the members..
Our silver salver for the member with the most competition points last year was won by Wynn. Group events to come are : the bowls evening and an evening meal at the Horseshoe at Egton. Our own summer outing is on July 11th when we will be going to Wynyard Hall. Our speaker/demonstrator for the evening was Anne Watson who showed us how to make a summer flower arrangement which was lovely. Afterwards we all made our own, with the posies judged as this month's competition and won by Jane.

Report from April 2019 meeting
Members and guests from Fryup and Kirkbymoorside gathered at Castleton village hall for our April meeting. Anne Watson is to attend the Spring Council Meeting on 10th, the federation quiz team was decided for the 20th May and an invitation from Ingleby Greenhow for 15th July was read out. The Danby Show competition is to be co-ordinated by Pauline. A Golden Wedding card was signed by members for Anne & John Watson. The Group activities, Darts evening (Glaisdale won again) The Group joint dominoes evening (with the Endeavour Group) is on 25th April. Our speaker this evening was Sophie Wilson who came to teach us some basics of Makaton Signing. This method of signing has similarities to British Sign Language but is used for different reasons and the words are always spoken at the same time. It is often used for those with learning difficulties, refugees and sometimes stroke victims.
We all learned to introduce ourselves using Makaton signs. Sophie's aim is to raise awareness of signing and spread the use of signing to aid communication with all.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 1st May and our speaker will be Tony Nicholson. He will talk about his book “The Love Of Dangerous Men: A Secret History In Letters’ - the result of his amazing find in his Brotton attic and the detailed research and contacts he subsequently made to flesh out the extraordinary life of Annie and her lifelong love, the throughly disreputable Gus.
All are welcome.

Report from March 2019 meeting
Our March gathering was an outing to Holey Moley's crazy golf at Skelton. Members met at the Longacre Pub for supper before going on to the crazy golf. In teams of 4 or 5 we worked our way around the course which was quite difficult for those without golfing experience. One or two managed a hole in one and Anne was the overall winner. A fun evening was had by all. Our thanks go to Yvonne for organising the evening.
